Champneys - Student Led Crit.

Today I took part in the student led crit that I had previously signed up for. It was a different group than I have previously been with as it was something that we hadn't organised ourselves. However this was beneficial as it was individuals I don't normally get feedback from and it was good to look at peoples work I don't normally see.

To start I briefly talked through the work I have done so far and the design direction I have been taking this year. And then moved on to speak about what I'm doing currently and in particular the Champney's brief. I spoke about our main idea behind the sub brand and how this has influenced our design decisions. One aspect I did want feedback on was how we could promote our brand further to the target audience and get them more familiar with it.

Feedback:
  • The aesthetics work really well with the audience we our aiming for and give a luxury feel.
  • One way to promote the brand further would be to create even small samples that could be handed out on the street or within magazines.

Champneys - Self Initiated Crit Two.

Today we returned to the crit that we organised last week, we were excited to show what we had done since the last meeting as we felt we had progressed a lot. Less people were here today so it went a lot quicker but we still got some really valid and helpful feedback.

Feedback:

  • Marbling has been really successful and it also links strongly with the sub brand name.
  • Taking an approach that isn't floral will really help the brand to stand out.
  • The strongest web design would be the one with the patterned panels down the side.
  • Look at other companies that have sub brands, not necessarily within the industry we are looking at. For example channel 4 with e4 etc.

Champneys - Self Initiated Crit One.

Today a small group of us decided to organise and take part in a small group crit as we all had briefs we felt we needed feedback on to help us develop. I went with Emily with our Champney's work so far, other participants were Tom, Eve, Imogen, Steph P and Natalie. We decided that it would be beneficial for us to continue this at the same time each week as it would be good to see how everyone was moving forward.

Feedback:

  • Use the blog aspect of the digital platform to promote what the spa can do. For example. An article on the blog showing how good avocado is for the skin, then suggest how the spa does as excellent avocado facial.
  • Make the audience feel as though they have to have it. Make them feel as though it is something special, high end and luxurious.
  • Most likely to appeal to a younger audience if it is given as a gift. A younger audience may not buy themselves a spa day or treatment but would appreciate it as a gift.
  • The name and gift bag is a strong idea.
  • Maybe create a separate day or certain times within the day that the ages 16-25 can go for a cheaper price. Therefore they will not be intimidated by the other customers and the older audience will not find them annoying.

Elmwood - Interim Crit.

Recently, Steph from Elmwood visited the studio to do an interim crit for this brief to discuss peoples initial ideas and progress. Here was my feedback:

  • Funfare idea is strong and quirky, definitely something that people will remember
  • The idea of bumper cars could be associated with dangerous driving
  • Pair with  a slogan that cancels this out
  • Funfare - without the bumps?
  • Theme of the funfair could be pushed a lot further
  • Look at more products associated with the fair
  • Use of language
  • Design aspects like typography and colour
